How Church? Week 6

Austin Maxheimer   -

Worship, Love, Compassion
1. Worship is directing all of your life to God. This past Sunday we talked about ordering our loves. How do you think your loves are ordered? What would someone from the outside looking in would say is your first love? What does it look like to love God more?
2. Ephesians 4:25-32 gives us a list of “don’ts”: Lie, sin in anger, steal, slander, grieve God’s Spirit, malice, bitterness, etc. How do “putting away” those things from your life help you love others? It may seem obvious, but think about the underlying motivations. Do we serve others even out of selfishness? What are the “do’s” found in this same passage? What do you learn about loving others in these verses?
3. Pastor Matt asked us to have a crucial conversation with ourselves based on what is truly satisfying and filling up our lives. What did you learn from that introspection? Share with your Team at least one thing you know you are using to satisfy your life that isn’t God. How can you help each other reorder those things?
Helping one another experience Jesus
As a Mission Team do we have our loves ordered correctly? Are we placing our Team responsibilities and activities above our relationship with God? Have this crucial conversation on your Team. What are ways you can grow together in your love for God that will fuel your Team’s mission?
Helping people far from God experience Jesus
People from outside the church need to experience the church. Remember, while Paul’s words in Ephesians 4:25-32 are helpful for our individual lives, they were actually written to the church body. It is by Christians living out this view of life among unbelievers that help people experience Jesus in real and tangible ways. Where can you go sometime in the next month, as a Team, to be among others.
