Our dear friend, Amy passed away on July 24, 2018. Below you can read her obituary, which in true Amy fashion, she wrote herself. We miss you, and are so thankful for all you have taught and continue to teach us.
Amy Higgins 1971-2018
Evansville, INTo all those who know and love me, know and don’t like me, or don’t know me but are now curious where this is going, my name is Amy Higgins and I caught a ride on the Jesus bus from my home on July 24, 2018 and moved on to an amazing place called Heaven. After my long awaited embrace with my savior, I enjoyed some Grandma and Pa time with Gilbert (Gib) and Virginia Ferguson and George and Marguerite Becker.I was born to a young military man, Roger Ferguson and his wife Christina (Becker) Ferguson on April 27, 1971. I was a girl who spent vacations camping in Kentucky, swimming in tennis shoes, putting worms on hooks, riding 4-wheelers, eating game meat and knowing how to use the bathroom in the woods. Thank you, Mom and Dad!After me, along came two sisters and two brothers: Angela Ferguson McConnell (Rex) of Huntington Beach, CA – Randall Scott Ferguson, of Evansville – Jacob Ferguson (Holly) of Francisco, IN – and Nicole Ferguson Tatum of Evansville, IN. Although it was sad to see my parents separate, I was happy to have Sandy marry my dad, and Dale Shawgo marry my mom. Both of these people are family to me now and have brought even more love into my life. With my marriage, I gained another mom & dad, Wanda Josette & Robert Higgins, as well as, a sister, Lisa McManus of Tampa, Fl. The cherries on top of this delicious sundae of the family are my three nephews and five nieces.

I was given 47 years in this life until the crummy cancer monster cut it short and took me from my loving husband, Jeff, of 28 years and my incredible 17-year-old twin daughters, Abby and Grace. I could write books about how proud I am of these 3, how strong they were through all of this, how much they took care of me, how far beyond their age Grace and Abby managed, and how unfair it seemed to all of us. We prayed together to trust in the will of God.

I made a living managing projects in the technology field, a total of 24 years, at places like CMC, American General Finance/Springleaf/One Main, Old National Bank, and Interactive Intelligence. I was never officially a programmer, but that’s what my Ivy Tech Associate of Applied Science degree said, and those were the nerds I liked to spend time with.

There are so many people and organizations I would love to thank … you know who you are and how amazing you have been to me throughout this journey.

There will be no burial until IU Medical Center returns me to my family after letting me help them with their cancer research but a Celebration of Life will be held in my memory at One Life Church (West) 1301 W Lloyd Expressway on Saturday, July 28 1pm-5pm. In keeping with my love of comfort, please wear your favorite jeans and t-shirt, and if you have them, your Converse tennis shoes.

In lieu of sending flowers, please consider a donation to Abby & Grace’s college fund. These can be made at my celebration of life or by sending donations to Ziemer Funeral Home 800 S. Hebron Ave 47714 made payable to “Jeff Higgins.”
