Wisdom for all of the Right Reasons

Dan Sullivan   -

The whole world sought audience with Solomon to hear the wisdom God had put in his heart. 1 Kings 10:24 NIV Do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve before kings; they will not serve before officials of low rank. Proverbs 22:29 NIV

All over the scriptures there are calls to gain wisdom, seek understanding, and the evidence of wisdom is shown in cash, in persecutions, in popularity, in rejection, and most of all in closeness to God. In both of these scriptures, though, the wisdom isn’t for the person with the wisdom. Solomon’s wisdom is something to be shared with all of the nations that would come and talk to him. The wise and skilled craftsman is a benefit to kings and high officials. Wisdom benefits the wise, for sure, but in almost every case there is a recipient or a secondary person involved that reaps the benefit of the wise person’s wisdom.
Seek Wisdom, Gain Understanding
Americans spend around age 3–18 in formal school, then some spend years 18–22 in college or vocational school. After that our channels for learning drop off considerably and either take the role of mandatory training at work, something interesting on the Discovery channel or YouTube, or a hobby. In other words, we slow down considerably and drift more into a survival mode to take care of our jobs and relax.
Jesus is living in you daily to express Himself to those around you. There is some wisdom that He wants to show off that might come through deliberate and exerted effort on your part. When it says “someone skilled in their work” they didn’t get there by watching from the sidelines. I have a friend that said “I kept that guitar safe in its case under my bed and it never learned to play itself.”
Ask the Lord and Make a Plan
Maybe it’s a book you read with your spouse or a podcast you listen to and discuss with a friend, there is an ocean of resources out there to help you gain wisdom about the Lord. Maybe you need to take 2 vacation days and throw down a hundred bucks for the Global Leadership Summit, or start a daily Bible reading plan. There isn’t a lack of resources available, that’s for sure.
It’s been a few weeks, but here is a review of the Next Steps from Because50. Maybe God wants to help you reboot and get restarted on one of them?
