Scripture Reading: Ephesians 6:10-12
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”
Questions for Reflection:
Who or what does Paul say that we are taking a stand against? He makes sure to clarify that the battle is not with flesh or blood, but rather who or what? It would have been easy for Paul to say the battle was against Caesar or the oppressive Roman government, but he doesn’t. Instead he shifts the eyes of the church at Ephesus to the spiritual realm where personalities are playing on the hearts of men. We need to remember that our battle is not with a political party, a political figure or even around a hot topic. Our battle is spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. In response to that reality, we must stand. Spend time today in prayer. Allow God to remind you of where the battle really is and where it is not. Ask for strength to stand according to His power at work in you.
