Scripture Reading: James 1:19-21
19My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, 20because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. 21Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.
Questions for Reflection:
This past Sunday, we listened to Joseph Grenny’s talk on “Crucial Conversations.” He says that when you come into a crucial moment, you can either talk it out or act it out. He says “if you don’t talk it out, you will act it out. It will show up in your behavior.” How do you handle conflict? How can you get better in those crucial conversations?
James, the brother of Jesus, gives tips for handling conflict. What command does James give us for how we should communicate with others in verse 19? Of those three commands, which comes easiest for you? Which is the hardest for you to do? Anger, that is uncontrolled, is dangerous. What does James say the effect of anger is?
