God’s Ways are Sweeter than Anything We’ve Tasted

Dan Sullivan   -

The rules of the Lord are true, and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb.
Declare me innocent from hidden faults.
Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me! Then I shall be blameless, and innocent of great transgression.
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.
Psalms 19:9–14 ESV
In the Old Testament, people expressed their faith by following the Law. When you were passionate about living for God, you’d go crazy about the Law and following every little bit to the T. That’s why you see David asking God to reveal his hidden sin several times in the Psalms. That’s why the Pharisees in the New Testament (who weren’t all bad guys) were so zealous to get the Law right.
In the New Testament, our sin has been taken away by the death and resurrection of Christ. Hidden sins or not, we have been made righteous in God’s sight by His own good works (Romans 3:21–22). THAT is good news. It doesn’t mean that we automatically have God’s favor from whatever we say. This closing verse “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable” don’t come automatically, but they will come as the Holy Spirit transforms us from the inside out.
God’s Law or rules or Torah in the Old Testament can also be translated and understood as God’s “Way.” As you read Psalms or other OT (Old Testament) books, when you see people talk about God’s Law, think of it as talking about the ways of God.
God’s ways are true, and righteous altogether. God’s ways are more to be desired than gold.
The way God does things is better than gold. The way God does things is sweeter than honey when it drips off of a honeycomb.
Tell God what a great job He is doing. Look for areas where the way something turned out was sweeter than you could imagine. Some people have to look harder than others. Some people have a banquet in front of their face full of things to be thankful for while others have to do some digging.
Dig. Make a list. Shout it from the rooftops and tell your neighbors. The way God does things has taken away your sin and made a place for Him in all of His glory to clean up your character and actions from the deepest parts of your being.
