God’s Power is Not for His Storage, It’s for Our Help

Dan Sullivan   -

[God’s] power [for us who believe] is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.

God is powerful. There are a lot of ways God showed His power in the past. He gave old old Abraham and Sarah children. He rescued Joseph and then used Joseph to rescue Jacob and his sons. He rescued Moses and then He used Moses to rescue all of the Hebrews slaves in Egypt. He used Saul, David, and Solomon to kick off a kingdom and God used numerous prophets to warn and save His people and many gentiles.
God used His very self to live a perfect life and then to die on the cross for our sins. He died. Jesus, in perfect submission to the Father, didn’t even use His own will or strength to raise Himself from the dead. He submitted His life to the Father, and the Father exerted His mighty strength to raise Him from the dead.
All of the power of grace and forgiveness and power over nature that it took to raise Jesus from the dead is now given to us in the Holy Spirit. It is not given to us in our flesh so that by a series of exercises and disciplines we can attain it. It is given to us by the Holy Spirit. God works that power in us as we grow in Him and depend on Him, though.
Just as God freely and joyfully rose Christ from the dead and gave Him authority over everything, God freely and joyfully wants to bring you back to life from the dead. Back to life from the worthless works of greed, sexual immorality, pride, covetousness, gossip, and despair. God wants to work an Easter Sunday in your soul every single day. Sometimes He does it in invisible ways deep down in our thoughts. Sometimes He does it in obvious ways through our friends or strangers.
God wants to show off His power. He isn’t a battery made to store power or a shy superhero trying to find His place. Ask Him frequently to work His power in you and in the people around you. He’s wonderful and there is much more to Him than just His power.
