May the Lord answer you when you are in trouble; may the God of Jacob make you secure!
May he send you help from his temple; from Zion may he give you support!
May he take notice of your offerings; may he accept your burnt sacrifice!
May he grant your heart’s desire; may he bring all your plans to pass! Then we will shout for joy over your victory; we will rejoice in the name of our God!
May the Lord grant all your requests!
Some trust in chariots and others in horses, but we depend on the Lord our God.
I had a missionary friend in China tell a Christian there that the American church was praying for them. The Chinese Christian replied, "We are praying for the American church, too. Everyone's struggles are different."
We don't need help from swords and chariots to rescue us, and we don't go offer burnt offerings in our time of need, but everything here still relates in it's own contemporary way. God hasn't changed a bit, and He's still fighting battles behind the scenes for us.
A great way to bless people is to tell them that God is for them. After long eras of church history where many people thought it was their job to tell sinners that they are going to hell, the church can step in and evangelize by telling people that the God of Jacob has made them secure. Your sins are forgiven; you have been rescued.
The Lord has accepted the ultimate sacrifice of Christ, and now -- Jesus said -- we can ask God for things directly in the Spirit and authority of Jesus. Whatever our modern day chariots and horses were, whatever we depended on for our security and identity, can go by the wayside.
Let's draw our victory and our identity from Jesus, the savior and lover of our souls.
