Getting Grouped With Others Because of a Few Actions

Dan Sullivan   -

To you, O Lord, I call; my rock, be not deaf to me, lest, if you be silent to me, I become like those who go down to the pit.
Hear the voice of my pleas for mercy, when I cry to you for help, when I lift up my hands toward your most holy sanctuary.
Do not drag me off with the wicked, with the workers of evil, who speak peace with their neighbors while evil is in their hearts.
Give to them according to their work and according to the evil of their deeds; give to them according to the work of their hands; render them their due reward.
Because they do not regard the works of the Lord or the work of his hands, he will tear them down and build them up no more.

We don’t always like the list of things that evildoers do, but check this out:

They speak peace with their neighbors
They work
Have at some point been built up by the Lord

A lot of us might aspire to be some of those things! But watch out and notice what they missed:

They had evil in their hearts as they spoke peace
Their hard work was evil
They didn’t notice or respect the things God did or the things He made

This is part of the reason why we talk about beauty and creativity and awe so much around One Life. If you can start to notice beauty and the awe of creation, you are moving closer to noticing God. If you turn hard work for yourself into hard work for others, you can do work that isn’t evil.
As much as we make efforts to make people like us or to fit into the culture, we have to admit that, as Christians, we are separated from the culture. There are a lot of people that we don’t want to go down with into the pit or history for that matter.
Let’s be Christians. Let’s give thanks and work hard on good things. Let’s notice Jesus and His work in our day to day. Let’s be steady on the Rock whom we serve and see the great things He brings about.
