Scripture Reading: 3 John 11
11Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God.

Questions for Reflection:
What is the command that John offers at the beginning of this verse? The command really has two parts. It is not merely enough to not imitate what is evil; we are commanded to imitate what is good. Often we think that if we just refrain from evil that we have met our requirements. John says that if we need to go beyond that and we need to imitate what is good.
In a sermon, Francis Chan challenges the idea that we need to play it safe.

How can you imitate what is good today? What is one thing you can today that would not only fight what is evil, but would advance the purposes of God on earth? Spend time in prayer asking God to give you the wisdom and courage to act in that way today.
