Don’t Grow Weary of Doing Good, For in Due Season We Will Reap

Dan Sullivan   -

Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.
Galatians 6:7‭-‬10 ESV
It is very easy in loss after loss to grow weary. When Jesus told us to love our enemies, He knew that it would be a thankless and difficult task. Nothing wears you down more then serving other people that take you for granted or don’t appreciate you. That is why this comes right after Paul talking about sowing to the spirit vs. sowing to the flesh. Paul knew that serving others out of the power of the flesh would lead to nothing but weariness.
The antidote to Growing weary is to do more good. If you look at the life of Jesus, you can see that his Mercy Torrid unbelieving ungrateful people only increased as his life went on. Ultimately , his Mercy grew to such love and care for those that were against him that his dying words would be “forgive them Father, they don’t know what they do.”
Whenever weariness knocks, look for someone to overwhelm with good. It’s especially good to do for other people in the church, but it’s also good to do for anyone that needs it.
