51 When the days drew near for him to be taken up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem. 52 And he sent messengers ahead of him, who went and entered a village of the Samaritans, to make preparations for him. 53 But the people did not receive him, because his face was set toward Jerusalem. 54 And when his disciples James and John saw it, they said, “Lord, do you want us to tell fire to come down from heaven and consume them?” 55 But He turned and rebuked them. 56 And they went on to another village. Luke 9:51–55 ESV
Instead of looking at how bad people do Christianity, look at the founder. Here is Jesus on the way to Jerusalem to be killed on the cross, and the disciples bring up the option to call fire down on a city.
How do you use heavenly power on earth?
When a city full of people didn’t believe, James and John understood heavenly power to be one of force. Jesus, put them back on the right track. He would use the power He had from heaven to submit to the Father’s will and submit Himself to die on the cross for others.
With all of the bad examples going on that represent Jesus poorly, let us be people that represent Him well. He has not left us, but has sent us into the world with His exact same Spirit inside of us.
